Snake gourd, mainly used as a vegetable, is a creeper that is cultivated in tropical countries has medicinal uses. It is a natural coolant and provides both therapeutic and cosmetic benefits. It contains calcium, phosphorus and iron in higher percentage.
In general, snake gourd is used for treating flatulence, worm infestation and general weakness. However, Jaundice, dandruff, heart disorder, diabetes - to name a few - can be treated using snake gourd. A decoction of snake gourd leaves and coriander seeds is said to help fight jaundice. Juice of snake gourd applied on the head helps cure dandruff. Due to its low calorie content, it is an excellent remedy for weight loss and diabetes.
Being a good detox agent, and rich in water and fiber, it makes digestion easy warding off constipation with ease.
Avoid consuming excess snake gourd seeds as it can cause indigestion and gastric discomfort.
